Official Records Contacts

This is a private reference service, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, arrange release, post bond, or retrieve an official record. Contact the responsible agency directly for those actions.

Sheriff and jail records

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is at 7007 Rumsey Street Extension, Bath, NY 14810. Its main number is 607-622-3930, the Records Unit is 607-622-3907, Jail Booking is 607-622-3913, and Jail Control is 607-622-3906. The published civil-office hours are weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the county does not state that every records or jail unit has identical walk-in hours.

For a formal county request, use the Steuben County FOIL page or email FOIL@steubencountyny.gov. The county says a Sheriff arrest-record request requires the person’s date of birth. Its FOIL form is the right place to ask which custodian holds a requested booking record or photo.

Choosing the right office

Current custody, an originating arrest report, a court disposition, and a state or federal custody record are different matters. Use the office that created or maintains the record.

  • Use the county records reference for the roster, written-request path, court route, and custody distinctions.
  • Use the Sheriff’s official Incarcerated Individuals Search for current county custody.
  • Use the arresting city or village police department for its incident report. Municipal reports are not automatically county FOIL records.
  • Use the Steuben County Courts or County Clerk for case and disposition questions.
  • Use DOCCS lookup instructions for a state-prison record and the BOP or ICE locator for their separate federal custody roles.

Court and city contacts

The County Clerk is at 3 East Pulteney Square, Bath, NY 14810, 607-664-2563, with listed weekday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Clerk maintains County Court and Supreme Court records. For municipal records, use the police agency named on the city-specific page. A court or police file should not be treated as a current-jail confirmation.
